Helping Your Students Find Success: An Executive Functioning Workshop Series for Educators
Executive Functions, Literacy and the A-Team: How leveraging brain science and EF can benefit all learners
For the past five years under the leadership of TSS Director of Education Jeffrey Ruggiero, The Southport School has collaborated with Tim Heitzman, PhD, a developmental neuropsychologist with deep training and clinical experience in executive functioning from leading institutions like Johns Hopkins Hospital, Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, Boston Children’s Hospital, and Harvard Medical School. Together, we developed a unique approach to training educators and parents in executive functioning coupled with a student-centered curriculum based on over 35 years of practical experience, which creates the foundation of our Proprietary Executive Functioning Coaching Program.
Though many parents and teachers associate executive functioning with “organization,” our training goes well beyond that skill, targeting the ability to regulate behavior, emotions, and cognitive domains. Knowing what to do is only half the battle. Parents and teachers share goals associated with shaping these functions and creating adaptive, performance-based habits at home and school. Success is achieved when children not only know what to do but also do what they know.
The result of our unique approach is that students establish reliable behavioral and cognitive routines and habits that support increased independence and effective goal-directed activity.
"Absolutely FANTASTIC series and content!!"
