Sensory Processing and Your Child: A Presentation for Parents

with Melissa Kahn, MS OTR/L and Kate Austin, MS OTR/L from the Sasco River Center

Wednesday, February 2, 2022

7:00 PM- 8:30 PM

This is a virtual event.

Due to pandemic times, there is always the possibility to make a quick change to a fully virtual format. If this presents itself, we will communicate this decision promptly and provide new details and Zoom link information. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience.

Many of us have probably heard of or seen, Sensory Processing being used on social media, in articles and potentially discussed within your children's schools. Regardless of our individual familiarity with the term, sensory processing is an important and necessary part of our everyday lives and our children's as well. Knowing how to support optimal sensory processing, and as a result emotional regulation and academic performance, can be a key component to our children's success across settings. Through both explanation and active engagement, we will provide you with tools, strategies and information to help better understand how you can support your child to become the best they can be. We will also specifically discuss strategies and support that can be incorporated academically into your child's current program, and additional support if needed. We hope you will join us for an interactive and engaging presentation where we will learn more about our sensory systems, our children and how we can all learn, grow and work together in harmony.

Fall 2021: Courses and Workshops

The faculty at the Southport School (TSS) is trained in the best research and evidence-based approaches to help our LD/ADHD students achieve success, but the reality is that not every student who needs a TSS education can attend. To extend our reach and help as many students as possible, we provide ongoing teacher training and professional development support.

Led by Southport School teachers and collaborators, we currently offer a variety of specialized training programs including Structured Literacy, Executive Function, and Assistive Technology. Parents, teachers, and administrators are invited to learn more about how we can work together as a community to impact the nearly 1 in 5 students with learning and attention issues, including the 1 in 10 with dyslexia, in our schools.

You can view our professional development courses, workshops, and collaborative presentations offered during the 2020-2021 school year below. Registration is required for all courses.

If you have questions, or if you are a school administrator looking for training for a group, please contact the CoLAB by email at or by phone at 203.254.2044.
Thank you for your interest.

I love how REAL you are in what you write. You have realistic expectations for teachers AND kids, and are understanding when things don't always go as planned...I have felt comfortable working with you throughout this whole process, without feeling intimidated. Thank you for that!
