By sharing knowledge with educators, The Southport CoLAB helps create learning environments where every student is recognized for their strengths, taught using evidence-based practices, and supported in reaching their potential.
The Southport CoLAB works with educators, schools, organizations, and systems working to improve outcomes for all learners. Our outreach is designed for the realities of diverse classrooms, our outreach strengthens instruction through practical frameworks, explicit teaching, and evidence-based executive function and literacy practices.
Through professional learning, instructional frameworks, implementation tools, and partnerships, we help educators apply sustainable, research-informed practices across classrooms and learning environments. Programs include in-person events, webinars, classroom-ready resources, and practical guidance that deepen educators' understanding of learning science and translate research into sustained practice.

Through direct outreach and collaboration with schools, districts, universities, researchers, community organizations, and education agencies, The Southport CoLAB works to expand access to effective practices, particularly in underserved schools and communities.

Adam J. Lewis Academy
Bridgeport, CT
The Southport CoLAB is honored to partner with Adam J. Lewis Academy (AJLA) to provide professional learning for educators, as well as Orton-Gillingham (OG) tutoring and reading screenings for students developing foundational literacy skills. This work is made possible through the generous support of the Deborah J. Quinsee Educational Fund.
Founded in 2019, AJLA serves students in Pre-K through grade six. Through this partnership, we provide students in kindergarten through second grade with small-group OG tutoring once or twice weekly, and free reading screenings annually.
Tutoring is provided by educator affiliates trained and certified through The Southport CoLAB’s Orton-Gillingham Instructional and Training Program, accredited by the Orton-Gillingham Academy.
The Deborah J. Quinsee Education Fund was established in memory of Deborah Quinsee, a former board member and alumni parent of The Southport School. Mrs. Quinsee was a passionate advocate for students with learning differences and those from underserved communities.
