Founded in 2018, The Southport CoLAB extends The Southport School's expertise beyond its campus by turning what works in real classrooms into evidence-based professional learning, instructional frameworks, and implementation support. Its work is grounded in neuroscience and cognitive science, shaped by daily teaching practice, and strengthened through collaboration with leading scholars and research partners.
The Southport CoLAB serves educators, schools, and organizations seeking practical, sustainable ways to strengthen instruction and support all learners. Through this work, it expands access to effective practices, builds educator capacity, and improves student outcomes across diverse educational settings.
The Southport School and The Southport CoLAB are led by Executive Director, Dr. Benjamin N. Powers, now in his fourteenth year. The Southport CoLAB's positive, supportive culture attracts mission-driven professionals seeking greater meaning work and a healthy work/life balance.
